Curriculum Opportunities

We pride ourselves on a wide range of curriculum opportunites for our students

It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart, it’s the manner in which it’s delivered

Any school can teach a curriculum. Amazing schools like ours is full of teachers actively and passionately exploring the possibilities of making their teaching practice more innovative, engaging and fun at every turn. This is the single ingredient that drives the most growth in our students.

The success we attain is not only evidenced by the assessment data – but it’s seen through the smiles and joy we see on our students’ faces as a concept is grasped, practised and extended/applied,   This is the indefinable element that drives us as teachers to produce and grow our own teaching skills year in, year out.

Student Wellbeing

St Benedict’s is a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) school.

Literacy

At St Benedict’s we implement the Victorian Curriculum. English is organised into three interrelated strands – Language, Literature and Literacy, which together focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing.

Numeracy

At St. Benedict’s we adopt teaching and learning strategies in Mathematics that enable students to be actively engaged in the learning process. Our Numeracy program covers the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment (VCAA) by encouraging a variety of knowledge building and authentic experiences.

Religious Education

At St Benedict’s, Religious Education is at the centre of both the formal and informal school curriculum. We invite and support all our students to live their faith through developing a deepened relationship with God and to form loving relationships with others.

Physical Education

Our students participate in weekly PE and sport lessons, which activities aim to enhance the students’ physical fitness and equip them with knowledge, skills and practice of different individual and team sports.  In addition to the usual sports program run by our PE teacher, we aim to provide our students with an opportunity to learn and participate in a specialist sport/activity each year, such as gymnastics, dancing and circus skills!

Visual Arts

St Benedict’s has established a partnership with a professional artist and founder of Melbourne Art Class, Marco Corsini. Through the arts, children are challenged to think creatively and solve problems, whilst developing skills of observation, spatial perception and fine motor skills, using a variety of mediums.

Performing Arts

Our school is a participant in Wakakirri, a Performing Arts event for schools.  Each alternate year to our Art Expo, all students are involved in our school production.

Languages (Italian)

All students from Prep to Year Six, participate in an Italian class where they learn functional language and about the Italian culture.

Music

We have a range of instruments available for use and currently offer free small group music lessons after school hours. In semester one 2020 we are offering guitar.

Digital Technologies

Our students have access to a number of devices such as Chromebooks, iPADs, Spheros and Bee-Boots.
